Pizza 73 shoots for Tim Hortons icon status |
|
The vice-president of marketing for Pizza 73 takes a moment to compliment a competitor in the quick-service food industry. |
"It was just a coffee shop and what they've done is phenomenal," said Pat Finelli. "They're an icon now."
Pizza 73 is shooting for icon status too, to be to pizza what Tim Hortons is to doughnuts -- so much more.
Just more than a year after the Edmonton-based regional chain was bought by Pizza Pizza Royalty Income Fund for $70.2 million, Pizza 73 is growing in all sorts of ways.
Pizza Pizza, a dominant player in eastern Canada, decided to stick with the well-known Pizza 73 brand in the west but save on costs by using common suppliers.
Finelli said sales have proven them right.
Sales for the year are projected at $83-$85 million. Average sales for store are about $1.5-$1.6 million per outlet, up 20 per cent year-over-year.
