ANCHORAGE, Alaska--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 16, 2002--Today Local 878 of the Hotel Employees & Restaurant Employees Union (HERE) launched www.ChenegaCorpWatch.org to provide updates and information on current contract negotiations at the Hawthorn Suites and Clarion Suites Hotels in Anchorage, Alaska. Both hotels are majority owned by Chenega Hotel Management, a subsidiary of Chenega Corporation.
Visitors to the site can find information on the Chenega Corporation's escalating labor dispute with its two Anchorage hotels, as well as learn detailed information regarding the varied business activities of the Chenega Corporation including its numerous government contracts. Visitors can also subscribe for regular updates.
Workers at the two hotels have been in negotiations for almost a full year now with little progress. HERE Local 878 feels that the Chenega Corporation is doing the Anchorage community a disservice by refusing to provide its workers with a living wage and healthcare benefits. It is unfortunate that Chenega Corp.'s subsidiary treats hospitality employees as second class citizens. Despite this summer being great for the industry, workers at these hotels have received little compensation for their efforts, added Marvin Jones, President of HERE Local 878.
Local 878 represents more than 1500 hotel and culinary workers statewide in Alaska.
